RTX 4070 Ti vs RTX 4070 Super — 2023 Ti end-of-life or 2024 Super default?
The 4070 Ti vs 4070 Super thread on r/buildapc and Tom's Hardware keeps resurfacing — often mixed up with the 4070 Ti Super (16 GB, different card). Here we compare two 12 GB AD104 Ada GPUs: the RTX 4070 Ti (Jan 2023, ~285 W, mostly EOL new stock) against the RTX 4070 Super (Jan 2024, ~220 W, current catalog). In plain raster the Ti leads ~8–12 % (Fortnite 1080p: ~248 vs ~223 FPS). But street pricing sits ~$175–175 apart (Super $575–$650 before tax vs Ti $700–$825 used or leftover inventory) for extra FPS many buyers will not feel on a 27″ 1440p 144 Hz panel. This is not 4070 Super vs 4070 (refresh vs base) or 4070 vs RX 7800 XT (Nvidia vs AMD) — you are picking between 2023 Ada peak and 2024 Nvidia value.

Which GPU for your use case?
- Casual / single-playerBoth GPUs are very playable at 1080p and 1440p. The RTX 4070 Ti has more headroom; the RTX 4070 Super draws less power (~220 W vs ~285 W).
- 1080p competitive (high FPS)For competitive play both exceed 200 FPS at 1080p. The 4070 Ti is slightly ahead.
- 1440p / light creationAt 1440p ultra the 4070 Ti is more comfortable. The 4070 Super is enough on high with DLSS Quality.
Bottom line
Pick the RTX 4070 Ti if you find a discounted card and want maximum FPS (750 W PSU).
Choose the RTX 4070 Super for a new 2026 buy: better value, lower power, DLSS 3 — the default choice.

NVIDIA's January 2024 reset — why Ti vs Super still trends on Reddit
The 4070 Super launch was NVIDIA tightening the mid-high stack: more active SMs, lower TDP, sharper MSRP — effectively a cheaper, cooler Ti-class card for new buyers. The original 4070 Ti still wins raster benches, but new listings are thin on Amazon, Newegg, and Best Buy in July 2026.
Common mix-up: 4070 Ti (12 GB, 2023) vs 4070 Ti Super (16 GB, 2024). This page covers only the 12 GB Ti. Need 16 GB? Look at Ti Super SKUs or 4070 Super vs RX 7800 XT on the AMD side.
Real search intent: « I have ~$550 for a GPU — buy a Super new or hunt a used Ti? » Not « which card wins every chart » (the Ti in raster), but checkout price, power bill, and monitor.
One die, one VRAM count — CUDA cores and TDP split the bill
Both cards ship 12 GB GDDR6X on AD104. The 4070 Ti lists 7,680 CUDA, 192-bit bus, 504 GB/s; the 4070 Super 7,168 CUDA but lands near ~96 % of Ti raster in our data — the internal note « Super ≈ Ti for ~30 % less » reflects street pricing more than shader count.
VRAM is not a tiebreaker here — unlike 4070 vs 4060, you are not buying memory. You are buying ~10 % more FPS and +65 W under load (285 vs 220 W). At competitive 1080p both clear 200+ FPS on Fortnite or Valorant; the Ti mostly buys headroom.
Gamers Nexus and US reviewers position the Super as the rational new buy; the Ti only pencils out on a steep discount or verified used deal below a clear price floor.

1080p high-refresh — Super is enough, Ti is comfort spend
Fortnite 1080p: ~248 vs ~223 FPS. Warzone: ~213 vs ~192 FPS. Both beat 240 Hz on competitive lows — the Ti keeps more margin with Discord, Chrome, or a light OBS overlay.
On Valorant, CS2, Apex ranked, the 4070 Super still pushes 200+ FPS on most maps. The Ti gap is cushion, not requirement. Stuck on a 24″ 1080p 240 Hz panel with no QHD upgrade planned? The Super does not hold you back.
Quiet Ti edge: slightly better 1 % lows in open-world titles (RDR2, Hogwarts). For pure ranked play, spending +$175 just for that comfort is a tough sell.
Native 1440p — where ~10 % stops being theoretical
Cyberpunk 1440p: ~103 vs ~92 FPS. Hogwarts Legacy: ~93 vs ~82 FPS. Fortnite 1440p: ~170 vs ~155 FPS. The gap widens vs 1080p — the natural home for both cards, but the Ti holds more room before DLSS Quality.
On a 27″ 1440p 144 Hz display, the 4070 Super runs high/ultra with occasional upscaling; the 4070 Ti targets stabler ultra without retweaking every AAA patch. Without upscaling, the Ti crosses 100 FPS in heavy QHD titles more often.
Just bought QHD or chasing locked 144 Hz in AAA? The Ti defends itself — if pricing stays sane. Otherwise Super + DLSS Quality covers most US buyers.
Path tracing, DLSS 3, and NVENC — same stack, different ceiling
Both run DLSS 3 Frame Generation, Reflex, and 8th–9th gen NVENC — 1080p60 Twitch/YouTube is fine on either. The Ti absorbs high RT + FG better — Cyberpunk RT Overdrive or Alan Wake 2 feel smoother on the faster card.
With moderate RT + DLSS Quality, the gap shrinks: Frame Generation can make the Super *feel* a tier higher on supported launches even with less raw raster. If you never enable RT, the Ti wins charts — but you may be paying for a mode you skip.
Regular creators: both work; the Ti offers more multitask headroom (browser + game + capture). See gaming PC for streaming and AMD vs NVIDIA.
285 W vs 220 W — summer apartment and PSU math
Reference board power: 4070 Ti ~285 W · 4070 Super ~220 W — roughly 65 W apart under load. At 3 h/day gaming that is a few dollars per month on a US utility bill — secondary to purchase price, but real in dorms without AC or ITX builds.
With Ryzen 5 7600 / Core i5-14400F: 650 W 80+ Gold is enough for the 4070 Super; plan 750 W for the 4070 Ti — especially with an overclocked CPU or a no-name 500 W PSU in a discount prebuilt.
Tight Micro-ATX or GPU length? 4070 Super dual-fan models (~240–270 mm) fit easier; some 4070 Ti triple-fan cards exceed 300 mm. Details: gaming PSU sizing.
Amazon, Micro Center, and eBay — where each card lives in 2026
RTX 4070 Super new: $575–$650 (Ventus, Dual, Eagle) on Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy. Above ~$600 before tax, cross-shop a used Ti or step to 4070 Super vs RX 7800 XT.
RTX 4070 Ti: scarce new in July 2026; used/open-box often $700–$825. A Ti under ~$600 tested (FurMark + your main game) can beat a new Super on raster — verify warranty and seller history.
eBay / Facebook Marketplace: Ti with receipt $550–650 can be compelling; >$700 usually favors a new Super with manufacturer warranty. Add sales tax at checkout on listed prices. Index: US GPU price study.
Upgrading from a 3070, 4060 Ti, or base 4070
From an RTX 3070 or 4060 Ti: both cards are a real 1440p jump. The Super wins perf/$ on a new buy; the Ti only if priced ~$150 under a new Super at similar condition — uncommon.
From a base 4070: Ti vs Super is only ~5–8 % apart — far less than 4070 → Super (~12 %). Spending +$200 to hop 4070 → Ti is rarely rational; 4070 → Super makes sense if you want stable 1440p ultra. See 4070 Super vs 4070.
Already on a 4070 Ti? Do not sidegrade to a Super for −10 % FPS. This duel targets new buyers or anyone replacing Ampere.
Five buyer lanes — discounted Ti or Super by default
New buy 2026, 1440p high/ultra → 4070 Super — stock, warranty, 220 W, DLSS 3.
Used Ti under ~$600 tested → 4070 Ti — more raster if price offsets used risk.
1080p 240 Hz ranked, no stream → 4070 Super; Ti is luxury unless heavily discounted.
1440p ultra no-compromise + 750 W PSU → 4070 Ti at fair price; else Super + DLSS.
OBS streamer / heavy multitask → both fine; Ti if you run RT + capture together.
Compact case, hot summer, tight power → 4070 Super for −65 W and shorter cards.
