In short: who wins, and by how much?
Pure raster (no DLSS) : RTX 4060 is ~15–25% faster depending on game. Not revolutionary, but clearly felt at 1440p.
With DLSS 3 Frame Generation : the 4060 can nearly double perceived FPS on supported games — the 3060 can't access this.
Price June 2026 : used 3060 ~$175 – $200 · new 4060 ~$275 – $325. The new gap mainly pays off for 1440p or streaming.

1080p: is the 3060 still good enough?
Honestly, yes for most 1080p players. CS2, Valorant, Fortnite, Apex, LoL — your 3060 still delivers 100+ FPS easily. It gets tight on recent AAA ultra (Starfield, Alan Wake 2) or if you move to 1440p.
The 4060 mainly adds headroom: fewer hitches, more future-proofing, and DLSS 3 if you enable FG on Cyberpunk or Hogwarts.
Happy at 1080p 144 Hz? Keep the 3060 and spend on NVMe or 32 GB RAM instead. GPU upgrade can wait.
1440p: where the 4060 really matters
At 1440p, the 3060 struggles on AAA high/ultra — often 40–50 FPS. Playable, but not comfortable 60+ stable.
The 4060 lands around 55–70 FPS at 1440p medium-high on the same titles. With DLSS Quality you can chase ultra-smooth without ugly visuals.
Buying new for 1440p today? Skip the 3060 unless it's a great used deal with warranty. Minimum comfort: 4060 or RX 7700 XT.
Power draw, noise and PSU
The 4060 pulls ~115 W vs ~170 W for the 3060. Less heat in a compact case, a 550 W PSU is plenty, slightly lower power bill long term.
Upgrading in an old case with weak airflow? The 4060 is easier to live with. No PSU swap needed if you already had a decent 550 W 80+ Bronze.
Verdict: upgrade or not?
Keep your 3060 if: happy 1080p, tight budget, or waiting for RTX 50 price drops.
Move to 4060 if: buying new, targeting 1440p, want DLSS 3 / recent NVENC, or your 3060 runs hot and loud.

Yes at 1080p for esports and most AAA at medium/high. It struggles at 1440p ultra and lacks DLSS 3. At ~€160 used, still a solid first GPU.
How much faster is the RTX 4060 than the 3060?
Roughly +15–25% raster at 1080p, +20–30% at 1440p. With DLSS 3 Frame Generation, perceived gap can be much larger on supported games.
RTX 3060 12 GB vs RTX 4060 8 GB: enough VRAM?
