RTX 4060 vs RX 7600: which budget GPU should you actually buy?

Default recommendation: RTX 4060. It leads on raw FPS in Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, Hogwarts Legacy, Warzone, and RDR2 — typically 10–18% at 1080p and 15–22% at 1440p in our reference set (raster, no Frame Generation). You also get lower power draw (~115 W vs ~165 W), which matters in ITX builds and hot summer rooms.

RX 7600 when price does the talking. At $219–$229 during a Prime Day or Black Friday dip, AMD’s card is one of the best pure 1080p raster deals under $300. At $259 vs $289, you are choosing features (DLSS 3, NVENC, RT) over dollars — not raw FPS alone.

MSRP launch was $299 (RTX 4060) and $269 (RX 7600). In July 2026, US street pricing usually lands at $275–$320 for the 4060 and $220–$270 for the 7600 on Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and Micro Center (in-store deals vary by region).

Sale timing matters more than brand loyalty. The RX 7600 has dipped to $219–$229 on major sales; the RTX 4060 rarely falls below ~$279. If you catch a 7600 at $219, the value case is real. If both cards are within $30 of each other, the 4060’s feature stack usually wins.

Check return windows and AIB warranty (ASUS, MSI, Sapphire, etc.) — both GPUs are partner-only designs, no Founders Edition for the base 4060. Compare the exact model on the product page before checkout; clock speeds and cooler size differ.

For competitive titles (Valorant, CS2, Apex, Fortnite performance mode), both cards blow past 200+ FPS — the gap is noise. The RTX 4060 helps more when Discord, Chrome, and OBS are open at once; the extra headroom is system-wide, not just in-game.

Stuck on a 1080p 60 Hz monitor and tight on cash? A discounted RX 7600 is a rational buy. Upgrading to 1440p later without swapping the GPU? Pay the premium for the 4060 now.

Neither card is a true 1440p Ultra GPU in 2026, but the RTX 4060 is closer: Cyberpunk ~58 vs ~48 FPS at 1440p, Hogwarts ~52 vs ~43. The RX 7600 can hit playable frame rates on older or lighter titles — or at Medium settings — but AAA texture budgets will push both cards.

8 GB is not dead, but it is tight. Forums (Tom’s Hardware, r/buildapc) keep asking whether 8 GB is “enough” — honest answer: fine for most 1080p games today, increasingly awkward at 1440p Ultra and for modded open-world titles. Both GPUs share the limitation; neither gets a free pass.

DLSS 3 Frame Generation is Nvidia-only. In Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy, or supported Fortnite modes, FG can nearly double perceived smoothness — the RX 7600 tops out at FSR 2/3, which helps but does not match FG on supported titles.

Ray tracing: both cards need upscaling to keep RT playable. The RTX 4060 is consistently faster in RT scenes (Control, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk RT). If you toggle RT off anyway, the RX 7600’s raster value improves — but you are buying hardware for the games you actually play.

Streaming: RTX 4060’s NVENC (9th gen) offloads encoding from your CPU — the standard advice for OBS at 1080p60 without tanking game FPS. AMD’s AMF works, but Nvidia still leads on quality-per-bitrate for most creators. More context: AMD vs NVIDIA for gaming.

Reference TDP: 115 W (4060) vs 165 W (7600) — about 50 W difference under gaming load. Over a year that is a few dollars on your power bill, but the real win is less heat in a small case and quieter fans.

Pair either GPU with a Ryzen 5 7600 or Core i5-14400F and a 550–650 W 80+ Bronze/Gold PSU is plenty. Tom’s Hardware threads often mention 550 W rigs upgrading from older cards — you do not need a 750 W unit for this tier.

Intel Arc B580 (~$249, 12 GB) shows up in every “4060 or 7600?” thread as the VRAM alternative. Extra framebuffer helps modded games and some 1440p texture settings — but verify driver stability on your exact titles before committing (Arc still has rough edges on a few new releases).

RX 7600 XT (16 GB) costs more but solves the VRAM anxiety if you stream, mod, or multitask. Used RX 6700 XT / 6750 XT sometimes undercuts a new 7600 on Facebook Marketplace or eBay — more VRAM, no warranty gamble if you buy smart.

Get the RTX 4060 if: you buy new, plan 1440p Medium-High, want DLSS 3 or ray tracing, stream on Twitch/YouTube, or build compact / low-power.

Get the RX 7600 if: your ceiling is ~$230–$250, you game at 1080p, RT is off, and you found a solid sale price.
