RTX 4060 vs RX 7600: which budget GPU should you actually buy?

RTX 4060 vs RX 7600: which budget GPU should you actually buy?

Searching rtx 4060 vs rx 7600 before a Newegg or Amazon order? Short answer: buy the RTX 4060 (~$275–$320 street) if you want the stronger all-round card — roughly 10–20% faster in our raster benchmarks, DLSS 3 Frame Generation, better ray tracing, and 9th-gen NVENC for Twitch or YouTube. Grab the RX 7600 (~$220–$270) when $40–$60 matters and you live at 1080p without regular streaming. Both ship with 8 GB VRAM on a 128-bit bus, so neither is a forever card for texture-heavy 1440p. Below: US street pricing, our FPS table, the 8 GB debate, and cases where you should skip both entirely.

Which GPU for your use case?

  • Casual / single-playerBoth GPUs stay very playable at 1080p. The RTX 4060 has more headroom in recent AAA titles and draws less power.
  • 1080p competitive (high FPS)For competitive gaming both reach high FPS. The RTX 4060 is slightly faster with better power efficiency.
  • 1440p / light creationAt 1440p the gap widens in favour of the RTX 4060. The RX 7600 still makes sense for older titles or medium settings.

Bottom line

Pick the RTX 4060 if buying new: better overall performance.

Choose the RX 7600 if budget is tight.

FPS varies with CPU, drivers, and scene. Use the PC4Games comparator for picks tied to your games.

Quick pick for US buyers

Default recommendation: RTX 4060. It leads on raw FPS in Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, Hogwarts Legacy, Warzone, and RDR2 — typically 10–18% at 1080p and 15–22% at 1440p in our reference set (raster, no Frame Generation). You also get lower power draw (~115 W vs ~165 W), which matters in ITX builds and hot summer rooms.

RX 7600 when price does the talking. At $219–$229 during a Prime Day or Black Friday dip, AMD’s card is one of the best pure 1080p raster deals under $300. At $259 vs $289, you are choosing features (DLSS 3, NVENC, RT) over dollars — not raw FPS alone.

Street prices: Newegg, Amazon, Micro Center

MSRP launch was $299 (RTX 4060) and $269 (RX 7600). In July 2026, US street pricing usually lands at $275–$320 for the 4060 and $220–$270 for the 7600 on Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and Micro Center (in-store deals vary by region).

Sale timing matters more than brand loyalty. The RX 7600 has dipped to $219–$229 on major sales; the RTX 4060 rarely falls below ~$279. If you catch a 7600 at $219, the value case is real. If both cards are within $30 of each other, the 4060’s feature stack usually wins.

Check return windows and AIB warranty (ASUS, MSI, Sapphire, etc.) — both GPUs are partner-only designs, no Founders Edition for the base 4060. Compare the exact model on the product page before checkout; clock speeds and cooler size differ.

1080p on a 144 Hz panel

At 1080p High/Ultra: Cyberpunk ~88 vs ~76 FPS · Fortnite ~165 vs ~142 · Hogwarts Legacy ~76 vs ~65 · Warzone ~142 vs ~122 · RDR2 ~92 vs ~79.

For competitive titles (Valorant, CS2, Apex, Fortnite performance mode), both cards blow past 200+ FPS — the gap is noise. The RTX 4060 helps more when Discord, Chrome, and OBS are open at once; the extra headroom is system-wide, not just in-game.

Stuck on a 1080p 60 Hz monitor and tight on cash? A discounted RX 7600 is a rational buy. Upgrading to 1440p later without swapping the GPU? Pay the premium for the 4060 now.

1440p and the 8 GB question

Neither card is a true 1440p Ultra GPU in 2026, but the RTX 4060 is closer: Cyberpunk ~58 vs ~48 FPS at 1440p, Hogwarts ~52 vs ~43. The RX 7600 can hit playable frame rates on older or lighter titles — or at Medium settings — but AAA texture budgets will push both cards.

8 GB is not dead, but it is tight. Forums (Tom’s Hardware, r/buildapc) keep asking whether 8 GB is “enough” — honest answer: fine for most 1080p games today, increasingly awkward at 1440p Ultra and for modded open-world titles. Both GPUs share the limitation; neither gets a free pass.

If 1440p Ultra is the goal, step up to RX 7700 XT / RTX 4060 Ti or read our 1440p gaming PC guide. Dropping texture quality one notch often fixes stutters faster than buying a new PSU.

DLSS 3, NVENC, and ray tracing

DLSS 3 Frame Generation is Nvidia-only. In Cyberpunk, Hogwarts Legacy, or supported Fortnite modes, FG can nearly double perceived smoothness — the RX 7600 tops out at FSR 2/3, which helps but does not match FG on supported titles.

Ray tracing: both cards need upscaling to keep RT playable. The RTX 4060 is consistently faster in RT scenes (Control, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk RT). If you toggle RT off anyway, the RX 7600’s raster value improves — but you are buying hardware for the games you actually play.

Streaming: RTX 4060’s NVENC (9th gen) offloads encoding from your CPU — the standard advice for OBS at 1080p60 without tanking game FPS. AMD’s AMF works, but Nvidia still leads on quality-per-bitrate for most creators. More context: AMD vs NVIDIA for gaming.

Power draw, thermals, and your PSU

Reference TDP: 115 W (4060) vs 165 W (7600) — about 50 W difference under gaming load. Over a year that is a few dollars on your power bill, but the real win is less heat in a small case and quieter fans.

Pair either GPU with a Ryzen 5 7600 or Core i5-14400F and a 550–650 W 80+ Bronze/Gold PSU is plenty. Tom’s Hardware threads often mention 550 W rigs upgrading from older cards — you do not need a 750 W unit for this tier.

Building ITX or reusing an old case with weak airflow? The RTX 4060 is the safer thermal bet. PSU guide: gaming power supply.

When to skip both GPUs

Intel Arc B580 (~$249, 12 GB) shows up in every “4060 or 7600?” thread as the VRAM alternative. Extra framebuffer helps modded games and some 1440p texture settings — but verify driver stability on your exact titles before committing (Arc still has rough edges on a few new releases).

RX 7600 XT (16 GB) costs more but solves the VRAM anxiety if you stream, mod, or multitask. Used RX 6700 XT / 6750 XT sometimes undercuts a new 7600 on Facebook Marketplace or eBay — more VRAM, no warranty gamble if you buy smart.

If none of these fit, run the PC4Games comparator with your Steam library — you may need less GPU than Reddit suggests, or a prebuilt in the $550–$975 band with an RTX 4060 already installed.

Buyer checklist

Get the RTX 4060 if: you buy new, plan 1440p Medium-High, want DLSS 3 or ray tracing, stream on Twitch/YouTube, or build compact / low-power.

Get the RX 7600 if: your ceiling is ~$230–$250, you game at 1080p, RT is off, and you found a solid sale price.

Look elsewhere if: you need 12+ GB VRAM today, want hassle-free 1440p Ultra, or can find a used 6700 XT with return protection. Related: RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 · RTX 4070 vs RTX 4060 · graphics card picks · PC4Games comparator.

Frequently asked questions

Is the RTX 4060 worth it over the RX 7600?

For most US buyers, yes — roughly **10–18% faster** in raster at 1080p, better **DLSS 3**, **ray tracing**, and **NVENC** for streaming. The RX 7600 wins only when it is **$40–$60 cheaper** and you stay at **1080p** without RT or regular streaming.

RTX 4060 vs RX 7600 for 1440p gaming?

The **RTX 4060** is more comfortable at 1440p Medium-High (~58 vs ~48 FPS in Cyberpunk raster). Neither card is ideal for **1440p Ultra** long-term with only **8 GB VRAM** — consider RX 7700 XT or RTX 4060 Ti if that is your target.

Is 8 GB VRAM enough on the RTX 4060 in 2026?

For **1080p**, yes on most current AAA titles. At **1440p Ultra** or with heavy mods, both the 4060 and 7600 can hit VRAM limits — lower texture settings one notch, or look at **12 GB** options like Arc B580 or RX 7600 XT.

Which is better for streaming on Twitch?

**RTX 4060** — **NVENC 9th gen** keeps encoding off your CPU with better quality per bitrate than AMD AMF on most setups. The RX 7600 works for casual streams but Nvidia is the default creator pick.

Should I buy Intel Arc B580 instead?

If **12 GB VRAM** matters more than ecosystem maturity, the **Arc B580 (~$249)** is worth comparing — especially for modded or texture-heavy games. Verify driver support on your exact titles first; Arc still has occasional rough edges.

RTX 4060 vs RX 7600 power consumption?

**~115 W (4060)** vs **~165 W (7600)** reference TDP. The Nvidia card runs cooler and quieter — useful in ITX builds or with a **550 W** PSU and limited airflow.

Where is the best place to buy these GPUs in the US?

**Amazon**, **Newegg**, **Best Buy**, and **Micro Center** (in-store pricing varies). Watch **Prime Day** and **Black Friday** — the RX 7600 has hit **$219–$229** on sale; the RTX 4060 rarely drops below **~$279**.

Used RX 6700 XT vs new RTX 4060 or RX 7600?

A **used 6700 XT / 6750 XT** with **12 GB VRAM** can beat both new cards on raster value — but you lose warranty and buyer protection. A **new 4060** is the safer long-term pick if DLSS 3 and NVENC matter to you.
