July 2026: Steam specs TBA, launch targeted 2028
On Steam ARK 2, OS / Processor / Graphics are still TBA — no official minimum table to copy. Studio Wildcard has pointed to a 2028 release window, with bridge content in ARK: Survival Ascended (including the *Legacy of Santiago* expansion planned for late 2027).
Third-party « GTX 980 minimum » charts are predictions, not publisher specs. PC4Games calibrates from ASA on UE5 (already heavy), the ARK 2 trailer (melee combat, parkour) and player reports on 32 GB RAM and VRAM limits.

32 GB RAM, NVMe SSD and lessons from ARK Survival Ascended
ARK: Survival Ascended lists a Steam minimum of 16 GB RAM and 70 GB SSD — in practice, medium bases, mods and UE5 streaming push toward 32 GB and 100–150 GB free. ARK 2 will likely start at least at that level.
An HDD is still a trap on Studio Wildcard open worlds: pop-in, long loads, micro-stutter when dinos and structures stream. Prioritize NVMe for the game plus a second drive for clips if you stream.
If you upgrade before 2028: RAM first (16→32 GB), SSD second, GPU last if your card already handles ASA at 1080p medium — unless you target 1440p or huge tribe bases.
ARK 2 vs ARK Survival Ascended vs ARK 1
ARK: Survival Evolved (2017) ran on modest hardware. ASA (UE5, 2023) raised the bar: VRAM, RAM, SSD. ARK 2 adds soulslike combat, parkour and a more AAA direction — plan a step above ASA, not below.

Where to buy in the US: new, used, and traps
Newegg / Micro Center : build 32 GB DDR4/DDR5 + 1 TB NVMe before picking the GPU — « i7 gaming » prebuilts with a GT 1030 are useless for ARK UE5.

Common mistakes before preparing a PC for ARK 2
Mistake 1 — copying a non-official « ARK 2 specs » chart from a forum. While Steam shows TBA, only a publisher update counts.
Mistake 2 — stopping at 16 GB RAM because that is ASA's paper minimum. In 2026 with Windows 11, Discord and a browser, 32 GB is real UE5 comfort.
