GTA 6 PC Requirements — What hardware do you need in 2026?
GTA 6 is the most anticipated PC release in years. Updated May 10, 2026: Rockstar has still not released official PC specs or a concrete PC launch date, but RAGE engine patterns, console targets and current GPU trends still allow a solid projection. Here is everything to know before upgrading or buying a new build.
GTA 6 status — May 10, 2026
As of this update, Rockstar has not published official PC requirements or a precise PC release window for GTA 6. The estimates below remain editorial projections based on the RAGE engine, the PS5 / Xbox Series builds, and the GPU market in the first half of 2026.
If you are planning ahead, two priorities remain: aim for at least 12 GB VRAM for comfortable Ultra textures in an open world, and pair that with 32 GB RAM plus a fast NVMe SSD to reduce asset-streaming stutter.
What we know about GTA 6 on PC
GTA 6 launched on PS5 and Xbox Series X in late 2025. No official PC release date has been announced yet, but Rockstar historically ships PC versions 12–18 months after console — placing the likely PC launch between mid-2026 and early 2027.
The game runs on an enhanced version of the RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine). The console version targets 60 FPS at 4K using reconstruction techniques. On PC, Rockstar will leverage DLSS 4 (NVIDIA), FSR 4 (AMD) and XeSS (Intel) for modern GPUs, allowing performance headroom well beyond native rendering.
Expected minimum PC requirements for GTA 6
Based on RDR2 requirements and current GPU market trends, here are the estimated minimum specs to run GTA 6 at 1080p/30 FPS on Low settings:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 (12 GB VRAM) or AMD RX 6700 — VRAM is critical. GPUs with 8 GB or less may struggle with Vice City's high-resolution open world textures.
CPU: Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X. GTA V was light on CPU, but GTA 6's advanced NPC AI and physics simulation will demand more cores.
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 minimum. Like GTA V, 16 GB should work but may cause FPS drops in dense city areas with background applications open.
Storage: 150–200 GB — plan for an NVMe SSD. Vice City will be even larger than Los Santos, with faster texture streaming requirements.
Recommended specs for GTA 6 PC at 1080p/60 FPS
To play at 1080p with High settings and stable 60 FPS, target:
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 (12 GB) or AMD RX 7800 XT (16 GB). The RX 7800 XT's extra VRAM is an advantage for Ultra textures. The RTX 4070 compensates with exclusive DLSS 4 Frame Generation to double apparent frame rates.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D or Intel Core i5-13600K. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D's large L3 3D V-Cache is especially effective for Rockstar open worlds that continuously stream large environments.
RAM: 32 GB DDR4-3600 or DDR5-5200. GTA 6 will likely benefit from fast memory on AMD platforms with EXPO enabled.
Storage: NVMe Gen 4 SSD (Samsung 990 Pro, WD Black SN850X) — 5,000 MB/s speeds eliminate visual pop-in in heavily loaded areas.
GTA 6 PC requirements for 1440p and 4K
For 1440p/60 FPS on Ultra settings, you will need a GPU in the RTX 4070 Ti Super / RX 7900 GRE tier with at least 16 GB VRAM. 1440p remains the sweet spot: near-4K visuals with significantly lower GPU load.
For native or reconstructed 4K (DLSS/FSR Ultra Quality), expect to need an RTX 4080 Super, RTX 5070, or RX 7900 XTX. GTA 6 at 4K will likely demand the same GPU tier as Cyberpunk 2077 in path tracing mode — that is, a mid-to-high-end 2025–2026 card.
Good news: DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation (NVIDIA) and FSR 4 (AMD) allow GPUs like the RTX 4070 and RX 7800 XT to reach 120+ FPS from 60 FPS native output — provided you have a compatible 120 Hz+ display.
Best GPU for GTA 6 in 2026: our recommendation
The best value GPU for GTA 6 in 2026 is likely the RTX 4070 Super (12 GB, ~$450) or the RX 7800 XT (16 GB, ~$380). The RX 7800 XT's extra VRAM is a real asset for open-world games, but the RTX 4070 Super offers exclusive DLSS 4 and Frame Generation.
On a tighter budget, the RTX 3060 (12 GB, ~$250 used) remains viable for 1080p/medium. Avoid 8 GB VRAM GPUs for GTA 6 — even the RTX 3070 8 GB or RX 6700 XT 8 GB may run out of memory on Ultra textures.
For maximum performance, the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT released in 2026 will be the cards of choice for native 4K/60+ FPS.
Best CPU for GTA 6: Intel or AMD?
GTA V was poorly optimized for multi-core CPUs, favoring raw clock speed. GTA 6 should leverage modern CPUs far better, with improved NPC AI threads, physics, and streaming workloads.
For a new build in 2026, the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X (DDR5, AM5 platform) or Intel Core i5-14600KF offer the best performance per dollar. If you already have an AM4 platform, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D with its 3D V-Cache is a low-cost upgrade that specifically boosts open-world game performance.
Avoid CPUs with fewer than 6 cores for GTA 6 — simulating Vice City with thousands of active NPCs requires significantly more compute than GTA V.
RAM and storage: do not overlook these components
32 GB of dual-channel RAM is the target configuration for GTA 6 without compromises. 16 GB will work but may cause stutters if other applications run in the background (Discord, OBS, browser).
For RAM speed: DDR4-3600 in dual-channel (2×16 GB) or DDR5-6000 on AM5/Intel 700 Series platforms. Enable XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD) in BIOS to reach rated frequencies.
Storage: a NVMe Gen 4 SSD of at least 1 TB is strongly recommended. GTA 6 will likely occupy 150–200 GB and load times on HDD or SATA SSD will be noticeably longer.
Should you buy a PC now or wait for GTA 6 PC release?
If you are currently playing other games (Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring Nightreign, Monster Hunter Wilds), there is no reason to wait. A PC with an RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT bought today will be fully capable of running GTA 6 at launch.
If GTA 6 PC is your only target and you have no urgent gaming needs, waiting until the official PC launch makes sense — GPU prices keep falling and the RTX 5000 / RX 9000 cards available by then will offer more VRAM for the same price.
