Activision published the official beta specs on 19 August 2026. The recommended build is an RTX 3060 Ti, 16 GB RAM and Windows 11. The floor is a GTX 970 or a GTX 1060. Full-game specs are not on the Steam page yet: they should land at launch.
For comfortable 1080p at launch, plan a tower around $975 to $1,300 at Newegg, Amazon.com, Best Buy or Micro Center. That sits above the beta recommended GPU, because ray tracing and DLSS 4.5 for the full game were not in the beta. TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and an SSD are mandatory. Why does Modern Warfare 4 ask more of a PC than recent Call of Duty titles?
Modern Warfare 4 is the first current-gen and PC-only Call of Duty. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version. The hardware floor therefore rises versus Black Ops 6 or Warzone, which still kept 2013-era machines in mind. A GTX 970 remains the beta minimum, but this is no longer a game designed to run everywhere: Activision assumes a newer PC, with SSD, DirectX 12, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
Shader preloading also differs by store. On Battle.net, compilation starts as soon as the beta is installed. On Steam, you still hit it at first launch: expect a longer wait and more hitching until the cache fills. If you are choosing between the two stores on the same PC, Battle.net is more comfortable on launch day. That is not an FPS gap once the cache is built; it is a first-session gap.
On the image side, Infinity Ward confirmed ray tracing and DLSS 4.5 for the full game. The August 2026 beta does not reflect that load: it runs without ray tracing. That is why we put the 1440p high-settings estimate above the official recommended spec (RTX 4070 Super / RX 7900 GRE, Ryzen 7 7700, 32 GB). CPU and GPU numbers for the full game have not been published yet. Until they are, stay conservative if you want ray tracing on from day one.
TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are not optional. Enable them in BIOS/UEFI, under Security, then verify in Windows with tpm.msc and the Secure Boot line in System Information. Activision also requires AVX on the CPU: very old chips without AVX are out, even if the GPU meets the paper minimum. An i5-8400 or a Ryzen 5 1600 still sits inside the beta envelope. An FX-6300 or an i7-2600 does not.
Last concrete trap: Intel Arc cards. The Arc A580 is listed as minimum and the Arc B580 as recommended, but Resizable BAR must be on in the BIOS or you lose a large chunk of throughput. Also confirm GPU drivers and the card BIOS are current before you blame the game. On a used tower from eBay or Facebook Marketplace, that is often what is missing, not raw horsepower.
