Best PC for Modern Warfare 4: official specs and budget picks (2026)
To play Modern Warfare 4 on PC, Activision requires at least a GTX 970 / GTX 1060 / RX 470 (3 GB VRAM), a Ryzen 5 1600 or Core i5-8400, 12 GB RAM and an SSD. These are the official beta specs published on 20 August 2026. For smooth 1080p, target the recommended tier (RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT, 16 GB RAM) or a prebuilt around $900 – $1200 USD at Amazon.com or Newegg. TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are mandatory for online play on any build. Updated 1 September 2026. Sources: Activision official beta PC specs and Call of Duty NEXT Early Intel blog. Detailed FPS tables and 1440p notes stay on the Modern Warfare 4 game page.

Official Modern Warfare 4 PC specs (beta)
These numbers cover the beta (Early Access 21–25 August, open beta 28 August–1 September 2026). Activision states that full-game specs at launch on 23 October 2026 may differ. We will update this page when launch requirements are published.
The official floor is low (a GTX 970 qualifies), but it does not spell out FPS or resolution targets. The budget table below answers what to buy, not just what runs.
| Minimum | Recommended (~60 FPS) | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit | Windows 11 64-bit |
| CPU | Ryzen 5 1600 / Core i5-8400 | Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i7-8700 |
| RAM | 12 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | GTX 970 / GTX 1060 / RX 470 / Arc A580 | RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT / Arc B580 |
| VRAM | 3 GB minimum | 8 GB |
| Storage | SSD required (full-game size not published yet) | SSD required |
| Other | DirectX 12, CPU with AVX, TPM 2.0 + Secure Boot enabled | Same + Resizable BAR required on Intel Arc |
Three play modes, three hardware priorities
Modern Warfare 4 ships with Campaign, Multiplayer and DMZ at launch. Activision is extending DLSS 4.5 / ray tracing settings across all three. The parts you should prioritize depend on what you play most.
For campaign and immersion, ray tracing and DLSS 4.5 matter more than ultra-low input latency. Favor a recent GPU and VRAM over extreme refresh rates. Suggested tier: $1200 – $1600 USD.
For competitive multiplayer (12 6v6 maps at launch), prioritize frame rate and responsiveness: 144 Hz+ monitor, low input lag, CPU that does not bottleneck the GPU. Suggested tier: $900 – $1200 USD, best FPS per dollar. Pair it with a FPS gaming mouse and a 144 Hz gaming monitor. The tower alone is not enough in ranked.
For DMZ extraction, sessions run longer and lobbies are larger. Aim for headroom (VRAM, storage) rather than the paper minimum. Suggested tier: $900 – $1200 USD minimum, $1200 – $1600 USD for comfort.
What budget should you plan? Three 2026 tiers
Sample US prebuilt towers (Amazon.com, Newegg, Micro Center), above Activision’s beta minimum with TPM/SSD headroom. Dynamic Amazon picks above filter $750 – $1400 USD.
| Budget | Best for | Typical build | In-game experience |
|---|---|---|---|
| $750 – $900 USD | Entry ranked / cautious DMZ | RTX 3060 / RX 6600 XT, Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB, 512 GB–1 TB NVMe SSD | Medium-high 1080p: 70–100 FPS |
| $900 – $1200 USD | Competitive multiplayer (sweet spot) | RTX 4060 / RX 6700 XT, Ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB, 1 TB NVMe SSD | Comfort 1080p + 144 Hz: 100–144 FPS with DLSS/FSR |
| $1200 – $1600 USD | Campaign RT / comfortable DMZ | RTX 4070 Super / RX 7800 XT, Ryzen 7 7700, 32 GB, 1 TB NVMe SSD | High 1440p + ray tracing: 60–80 FPS with upscaling |
What to check before buying on Amazon
SSD required: not a nice-to-have, an Activision requirement. An HDD-only PC will not behave correctly.
12 GB RAM official minimum, 16 GB recommended: read the product page; many entry prebuilts still list 8 GB.
CPU with AVX support: only Intel/AMD CPUs with AVX are supported at this stage. Double-check old or used builds.
TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled in BIOS: often off on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace towers older than 3–4 years. Without both, no online play.
Resizable BAR enabled on Intel Arc, or you lose a large chunk of FPS.
PSU sized correctly: 500 W+ certified for GTX 1060/RTX 3060, 650 W+ for RTX 4070+.
Mobile number linked to your Steam account if you play through Steam: a common day-one blocker.
Disk space: Activision has not published the full-game install size yet. Black Ops 6 (102 GB) and Black Ops 7 (~116 GB) suggest planning 120–150 GB free.
On laptops, stay plugged in for long sessions: mobile RTX chips throttle faster on battery.
Desktop or laptop?
A desktop still delivers the best FPS per dollar and runs quieter, recommended if you have space. For MW4 multiplayer or DMZ, a desktop around $900 – $1200 USD beats an equivalent laptop on VRAM and cooling once shader caches fill or you move to 1440p.
A laptop works if mobility matters, plugged in while gaming. Cross-check your Steam library in the PC4Games comparator.

Frequently asked questions
What is the official minimum PC spec for Modern Warfare 4?
Activision lists a Ryzen 5 1600 or Core i5-8400, 12 GB RAM, a GTX 970 / GTX 1060 / RX 470 / Arc A580 with 3 GB VRAM, and an SSD. These are the beta specs published on August 20, 2026. Full-game requirements may differ slightly.
What is the recommended PC spec for Modern Warfare 4?
The recommended tier targets about 60 FPS with a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 3060 Ti / RX 6700 XT / Arc B580 with 8 GB VRAM on Windows 11.
Do I need an SSD for Modern Warfare 4?
Yes. Both official spec tiers require an SSD. A hard drive alone is not enough, even at minimum settings.
Are TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot really required?
Yes. Activision confirms you cannot play online without TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled. RICOCHET anti-cheat needs them.
What PC should I buy for Modern Warfare 4 on a $900 – $1200 USD budget?
That is the sweet spot for most players: an RTX 4060 or RX 6700 XT with 16 GB RAM handles 1080p at 144 Hz with DLSS/FSR, which fits competitive multiplayer.
Will beta specs match the October 23 launch build?
Not necessarily. Activision notes beta specs may differ from the full game. We will update this page when launch requirements are published.
Desktop or laptop for Modern Warfare 4?
A desktop gives better FPS per dollar and cooler thermals on long DMZ or multiplayer sessions. A laptop works if portability matters; keep it plugged in while gaming.
How much RAM do I need for Modern Warfare 4?
12 GB is the official minimum, but plan for 16 GB. That is Activision's recommended tier and the sensible 2026 baseline for PC gaming.
